In honor of her birthday I felt the need to dig through all my Bjork and The Sugarcubes collection and compile this sweet playlist. I’ve loved Bjork since I was a small lass on the playground. One day I was watching MTV and the video for The Sugarcubes “Hit” and I was quite fascinated with this woman being very child and cartoon character-like and I wanted to be her when I grow up. Her songs and also The Sugarcubes song have this reminiscences of being the bastard stepchild of what could’ve been in a Disney movie, or her very own strange fairy tales. Everything about her is eccentric, different, and beautiful.
The Sugarcubes:

Today in “Lorie’s Essential Playlist” is for Every Time I Die. What I love about ETID is the frenetic energy of their music and live show. They are the perfect example of a band that can perfectly blur a bunch of genres together in one song. Keith Buckley is not only an amazing vocalist who can go from screaming to soulful within a song, but his lyrics are in the form of a subjective essays and letters. They are also the quintessential party band for my generation.
