Essential Bjork

In honor of her birthday I felt the need to dig through all my Bjork and The Sugarcubes collection and compile this sweet playlist. I’ve loved Bjork since I was a small lass on the playground. One day I was watching MTV and the video for The Sugarcubes “Hit” and I was quite fascinated with this woman being very child and cartoon character-like and I wanted to be her when I grow up. Her songs and also The Sugarcubes song have this reminiscences of being the bastard stepchild of what could’ve been in a Disney movie, or her very own strange fairy tales.  Everything about her is eccentric, different, and beautiful.

The Sugarcubes:
“Delicious Demon” - “Life’s Too Good” 1988
“Sick For Toys” - “Life’s Too Good” 1988
“Eat The Menu” - “Here Today, Tomorrow, Next Week!”
“Dark Disco” - “Here Today, Tomorrow, Next Week!”
“I’m Hungry” -  ”Stick Around For Joy” 1992
“Chihuahua” -  ”Stick Around For Joy” 1992

Solo:
“Alta Mirra” - “Bjork” 1977
“Oliver” - “Bjork” 1977
(This was the record Bjork released when she was a child)
“Bella Simamaer” - “Gling-Glo” 1990
“I Dansi Mea Per” - “Gling-Glo” 1990
“There’s More to Life Than This” - “Debut” 1993
“Violently Happy” - “Debut” 1993
“Hyper-ballad” - “Post” 1995
“Possibly Maybe” - “Post” 1995
“5 Years” - “Homogenic” 1997
“Immature” - “Homogenic” 1997
“Scatterheart” - “Selmasongs” 2000
“New World” - “Selmasongs” 2000
“Cocoon” - “Vespertine” 2001
“Aurora” - “Vespertine” 2001
“Who Is It” - “Medulla” 2004
“Triumph of a Heart” - “Medulla” 2004
“Hunter Vessel” - “Drawing Restraint 9” 2005
“Holographic Entry Point” - “Drawing Restraint 9” 2005
“Vertebrae by Vertebrae”  - “Volta” 2007

“Jimmy’s Prom Song Used The Tango Method For The Marvelous Slut is Pretty Dirty”

“When in Rome we shall do as the Romans, when in Hell we do shots at the bar.”
-“Ebolarama”

Today in “Lorie’s Essential Playlist” is for Every Time I Die. What I love about ETID is the frenetic energy of their music and live show. They are the perfect example of a band that can perfectly blur a bunch of genres together in one song. Keith Buckley is not only an amazing vocalist who can go from screaming to soulful within a song, but his lyrics are in the form of a subjective essays and letters. They are also the quintessential party band for my generation.

“Your Touch Versus Death” - “Burial Plot Bidding War” 2000
“Morphine Season” - “Burial Plot Bidding War” 2000
“Pincushion” - “Last Night in Town” 2001
“Nothing Dreadful Ever Happens” - “Last Night in Town” 2001
“She’s My Rushmore” - “Hot Damn!” 2003
“Hit of The Search Party” - “Hot Damn!” 2003
“Bored Stiff” - “Gutter Phenomenon” 2005
“L’Astronaut” - “Gutter Phenomenon” 2005
“Pigs is Pigs” - “The Big Dirty” 2007
“Rendez-Voodoo” - “The Big Dirty” 2007
“Who Invited The Russian Solider?” - “New Junk Aesthetic” 2009
“Turtles All The Way Down” - “New Junk Aesthetic” 2009
